Reading Week!

Hey everyone!

Okay, I admit it. Evie's writing inspiration has been lying at the bottom of a gutter recently. I'm not sure where it went, it's a little difficult to find. Not just for this blog, but also for the story I'm writing. Although, even though I haven't made any word count progress on the story, the plotline has developed quite a bit. I guess that's something? But of course, I couldn't just leave this blog alone... So, prepare for a super interesting recount of Evie's Reading Week!

It all started on the first day - we kicked off reading week with...a 3 hour dance practice. Sounds typical? Well, it was a little different than normal, since we had a group of YS trainees visit. I trained with a small group of them, some of which I suspect may show up soon as a 10th generation SERA00 member. As of now though, they haven't debuted yet.

Next:

  • We visited a burger joint. I ate sweet potato fries. I love sweet potatoes. I really do.
Oh, actually there was something before the dance practice - I went out for Korean BBQ with some classmates to celebrate finishing midterms (...well, some of the midterms at least? :D)

Right. Onwards:
  • I went home. Home is always nice - lots of food, and a kitchen, to make more food...
  • We went out for a family dinner. There were cute little personal hot pots, and we topped off the meal with a giant bowl of matcha shaved ice and red beans. I also love red beans. And sweet potatoes.
  • Looking at my laptop screen as I'm about to type the next point, I realize that this list might be all food...
  • So I made food
    • Day 1: brownies
    • Day 2: tteokbokki
    • Day 3: galbi & buttermilk fried chicken
    • Day 4: macarons
    • Day 5: cheese rice
    • Day 6: vanilla cupcakes with swiss meringue buttercream
    • Day 7: sweet potato tong sui (dessert soup)
  • I also met up with a friend from Waterloo. We celebrated her birthday early. We sat on the floor in front of the TV, put those 3D glasses on, and watched owls fly across the screen and into our faces.

Of course, all good things eventually come to an end. But the end of one thing is also the beginning of another, and while the end of my reading week didn't bring about Reading Week 2.0, it did signal the beginning of reading week for our friends over at McGill.

I'll consider today the last day of my "reading week" before it's officially back to business. I went to class this morning, then met up with my friend for lunch. I hadn't seen her since last year, after she went off to attend McGill in Montreal. We missed the chance to meet during the winter break, so I was more than happy to see her. She was also happy to see me (and my macarons and cupcakes :P). We had a nice lunch and chat. She had a prior engagement in the afternoon, which gave me a couple hours to begin studying (which is really what I should be doing now...). Coincidentally or not, I bumped into another friend - one whom I hadn't seen in a few years and I hadn't been aware that he attended the same university. After that, I met up with friend-from-McGill again. We took a stroll around the mall, picked up bubble tea and had a quick dinner.

I'm trying hard to avoid the word "overall" right now...but OVERALL, it was a great reading week. Were there other things I could have been - should have been - doing? Of course, plenty. There are more than a few looming deadlines I could have diminished had I done more work over reading week. But if I went back and did it all again, I'm not sure what I would've done differently. Because there were some pretty fun moments, and seeing as I can't do it all again, I guess that's all that's important. So work hard, but remember to take a breath, smile, and come see a SERA00 Stage ;)
